The Fish Store, Aldeburgh

Entire home/flat
2 guests
1 bedrooms
1 beds
1 baths
Small but perfectly formed, this is a compact oasis which has been well designed to incorporate everything you need for a break. Tucked away in a quiet spot adjacent to the Co-Op, the ground floor has a bedroom with double bed, a shower room, and steep stairs to the first floor where you'll find a cosy living room with a kitchen and breakfast bar. The property, a conversion of an historic Fish Store (hence the name) behind what was once one of Aldeburgh’s fishmongers is not suited to guests who have limited mobility or are particularly tall or broad.

The space

REVIEW
"A perfect bolt hole within minutes of the sea so we could have a swim before breakfast, after lunch, and pre-dinner! Found a pleasant walk to Thorpeness through shady woods and back along the beach.
Having Co-Op next door is an added bonus! And, despite being in the middle of the high street, very quiet with a comfortable bed so a good night's sleep was guaranteed. We'll be back!"

You’re welcomed into a small entrance with the bedroom door to your left, a curtain ahead of you concealing the shower room, and unusually steep stairs (ladder like!) rising ahead of you to the first floor with a rope rail to steady you.

BEDROOM
The quality king size bed sits under the window in this carpeted bedroom, with a shelf and lights on either side for bedtime reading. A wardrobe with hanging space and shelves gives space for you to unpack and settle in and there’s a handy cubby holes for shoes.

SHOWER ROOM
A curtain neatly gives privacy to this compact shower space which has a corner shower cubicle with an adjustable electric shower attachment, a WC, attractive porcelain basin and a heated towel rail (towels are provided).

LIVING/KITCHEN/DINING ROOM
Incredibly well designed, this charming room has everything you need for a restful stay with a skylight and windows allowing lots of natural light in the summer months and a wood burner to keep you cosy in the winter.
Whether you enjoy catering at home or prefer a takeaway, the kitchen is equipped with an under counter fridge, a two-ring electric hob and a Samsung Smart combination microwave/oven and the there are a couple of stools beneath the worktop to perch on whilst eating. You’ll find ample crockery, cutlery and utensils, as well as the essential Smeg kettle and toaster.
The sitting area is furnished with a couple of beautiful velvet bucket chairs, a coffee table and the corner table where the Bluetooth speaker and TV sit for your entertainment with a Humax Freesat box for terrestrial TV channels.

OUTSIDE
The Fish Store is tucked away in an incredibly quiet spot behind the second hand bookshop in the heart of town, literally a couple of minutes from the sea and shingle beach with a string of fish huts where you can buy the freshest fish on land. The Co-Op and all the independent shops, eateries, takeaways, iconic Cinema and wonderful art galleries are on the doorstep. Access is through a small courtyard, shared with one other property.

Lovely, quirky place to stay. Excellent use of space with everything you need. It is small - especially the bedroom and shower area, and the stairs are very steep. Perfect location, we had a wonderful last minute break.

Very affordable place but slap bang in the middle of Aldeburgh- beach, restaurants pubs, shops within 10 minutes walk. It’s a tiny place, about half a cottage, with a shower squeezed in, and the living room space is up a ladder, but if you’re fine with the limited space it’s perfect, esp for the price.

5 stars from me, 4.5 from wifey who banged her head a couple of times using the fridge :) Location was great, cottage was quaint, great place to stay, would use Stay In Suffolk again, but probably use a bigger property if we stayed longer. For a few nights it was spot on.

Cosy little house in the centre of Aldeburgh. Had a very nice stay for a few days.

I had a very pleasant 4-week stay at this cosy little Airbnb. The space is quite small but thoughtfully laid out, making it feel warm, functional, and comfortable. It came fully stocked with pots, pans, and utensils; everything I needed to cook and feel at home. The amenities were a standout, high-end touches like a Smeg kettle and toaster, a Samsung microwave, and a working TV made it feel like a premium stay. You can tell care was put into the setup. There was no WiFi for the first 5 days, but the host was responsive and proactive in resolving it, which I really appreciated. Overall, the communication was great throughout. This place is perfect if you value comfort, quality appliances, and a quiet, homely vibe. Would definitely stay again!

Lovely little place to stay when we eventually found the right cottage. The number was incorrect on the details we were sent before we checked in and so made it a little difficult to initially find the right property. However a call to Stays in Suffolk was soon able to correctly give us the right directions. And from there onwards we had a really enjoyable stay. Cottage is right on the high street. Very clean and everything you could need for a few days away. Nice and quiet aswell considering the position. Lovely pubs and restaurants nearby and so close to the beach. Some may find parking a problem if there for more than a day or two as the local car parks do not allow 24hr parking. We were fortunate to find a space on a residential road and left the car there for the duration of our stay but if you wished to go out every day in your car you may struggle to find spaces available when you returned on the side streets. All in all a lovely few days away over a busy Easter weekend.
