The space

The apartment is spacious and quirky. It has multiple levels, with exposed wooden beams, and 16th century features, yet still has a contemporary and homely feel.

The metal stairs go up to the front door and you step into the entrance hall where there is a rail to hang coats and a shoe rack. This leads into the well-equipped kitchen with a washing machine, dishwasher, fridge (with small freezer compartment), microwave, toaster, kettle and cafeteria. There is a table and chairs that seats 4 comfortably.

This leads through to the next "levels" and there is a door on your right which leads up to the twin bedroom with a skylight, and beyond this there are 2 steps down to the bathroom. The good-sized bathroom has a walk-in shower as well a full-size bath with shower attachment, W/C, sink with cabinet beneath and towel rail.

From here, another set of stairs lead to the next level, where, on the right is the living room, and on the left is the bedroom.

The living room has a 2 seater sofa and 2 armchairs where you can enjoy a chilled out evening watching TV, reading a book or having a glass of wine or 2 with fish and chips from across the road!
The bedroom has a double bed, 2 bedside tables, a chest of drawers and a wardrobe. The window looks out onto the high street.

Please note for security, the courtyard at the rear is covered by CCTV 24 hours a day.

It is the perfect base to explore the beautiful Suffolk coast and surrounding areas. Alternatively, if you just want to relax, it is the perfect location with all the restaurants and bars within walking distance, as well as Waitrose and Tesco just around the corner.

The instructions for check in seemed complicated but our arrival was pretty smooth. It’s a quirky flat with nice beams. The shower didn’t work and has been reported but there was plenty of hot water for baths. The heating is manually controlled and on a timer. I wouldn’t stay in winter or with small children for this reason. In April though it warmed up soon enough and there are cosy blankets provided. We enjoyed board games and got some good ideas for places to visit from the info folder. The beds were comfortable with enough towels and pillows. The kitchen had everything you could need and the place was very clean particularly considering the beams and nooks. I would stay here again and would go the the chippy opposite again.

Beautiful apartment - we especially loved the wooden beams in the bathroom and kitchen. It is incredibly well-located, with a pub opposite and supermarkets very close. Great quality cotton sheets and a well-equipped kitchen. Handy parking spot too. However a few niggly issues affected our stay, of which three had already been raised by a previous guest 18 months ago, as noted in the Guest Book, so they should have been sorted: wrong keycode, wrong WIFI code, and inadequate heating. The first two were eventually resolved after back and forth with the management company. The apartment was cold, with radiators at 16degrees which kept the place at an unpleasantly cool temperature. Plus there was nowhere to dry our damp towels. The radiator in the bathroom was plugged in inside a locked cupboard, so couldn’t be switched on. Also, the TV remote didn’t work properly, only switching it on and off. We stayed for a local family event, so will probably be back, but in warmer spring/summer!

Beautiful, quaint apartment. I loved the decor and style. Only two niggles, WiFi password was not correct (this was mentioned in the guest book back in October but didn’t appear to have been rectified). The apartment was freezing. No heating in the bathroom at all and we couldn’t get the heater in the main bedroom working. Fortunately, the owner, Sue, got in touch to tell us how to get it working. Would definitely stay again, but when it was warmer !

We really enjoyed our stay - the airbnb was perfect for exploring East Suffolk, a short drive to Orford, Woodbridge, Southwold and the beaches. The flat was charming, and very comfortable - very good mattresses, we were perfectly at home. There are some steep ish stairs from the kitchen to the bathroom and again up to the bedroom, so that's something to consider if you have accessibility requirements. We were initially cautious about booking as there was only one airbnb review, but realised soon that's because the cottage is managed by a separate rental company. We'd recommend, and certainly come back.

What a lovely stay we had in Saxmundham! Great to be on the High Street with an allocated parking space. All the amenities we needed so we felt right at home. Fabulous local Indian, Spice Zone, a must to visit!
