The space

Meticulously restored to honour the late-Georgian history of Aldeburgh as a health resort, the interiors of this gem of a property bring to life the home’s early history. Entering the stone-flagged hallway you will find the sitting room on your right with the hallway continuing into the open-plan kitchen diner to the rear of the house.

SITTING ROOM
Sink into the generous leather sofa, put your feet up onto the huge pouffe, draw the original sliding shutters and enjoy the warmth of the fire and your favourite movie on the wall mounted internet TV with streaming services (fast full fibre broadband).

KITCHEN/DINER
The three-oven induction-top Rangemaster takes pride of place in here with a bespoke wood and slate cabinet surrounding it, a marble-topped food prep counter, two dressers well-stocked with utensils and crockery, and an antique dining table seating four, with a couple of extra chairs for visitors. Tucked away in the scullery is an industrial sink, a large fridge/freezer, dishwasher, ice machine, washing machine and tumble dryer. There is also a Dualit kettle and toaster, a microwave and a Bosch coffee machine which takes refillable pods to fill with your own choice of ground coffee. (Or buy ready-made Tassimo pods from the High Street Co-op).

FIRST FLOOR
Upstairs there’s a double bedroom on the right and a second bedroom at the other end of the corridor, with the bathroom conveniently off the landing in between. The steep stairs (handrail on the right) and landing are carpeted, with original wood floors and colourful rugs in the bedrooms.

BEDROOM ONE
The handsome double bed sits between bedside shelves and a small desk and chair. There is a substantial chest of drawers, a luggage rack and hangers, and a Lloyd Loom armchair by the Georgian sash window.

BEDROOM TWO
Equally stylish with its original (non-working) fireplace, this room has a zip and link super king size bed which will be made as a double unless you request twin beds in advance, plus a luggage rack, desk, chair and a Shaker peg rail for clothes hanging.

BATHROOM
After a day of coast and estuary walks it’s time to relax into the extremely deep Omnitub (a Japanese-style soaking bath) in this unique bathroom which has a fixed-temperature hand-shower for hair-washing, a WC, a wash basin, natural light and a heated towel rail (towels supplied for all guests).

OUTSIDE
Mrs. Pilgrim’s is at number 55 King Street, only 40 metres from the sea wall, so you can stroll down the facing alley with your coffee cup or wine glass to fill your lungs with sea air morning and evening. Directly behind is the High Street, with its artisan food shops, pubs, eateries, cinema, art galleries and bookshops. Free parking directly in front of the house and along King Street plus several small car parks further down the road (free between 6pm and 8am; for 30 minutes outside of these hours, you can offload and find unrestricted parking elsewhere or pay for parking up to four hours.
