We fell in love with Abbey Hall. Amazing welcoming hosts, beautiful surroundings and place to stay. It really is up there as one of my favourite weekends away. I’m still feeling recharged and happy from our wonderful weekend.
My wife and I bought our daughter for our first family trip away in the U.K. We couldn’t have picked a more perfect spot. Olivia’s place was stunning and in such beautiful surroundings. Such a special building and gardens with so much history. We loved the style of the place as everything had been thoughtfully picked out. The BBQ set up was great too, and it was all a short walk to the local village as well. Olivia and the management team were always on hand and super welcoming.
Great hosts, Olivia called prior to arrival to ensure smooth check in & was super friendly. The location was easy to find, the grounds are beautiful & the barn itself is just stunning - so quirky and huge! On arrival we were gifted a bottle of wine in the fridge to enjoy & we were even provided with bacon for breakfast too, the hosts were so attentive, they could not do enough for us! We stayed for 2 nights with our 2 small dogs & enjoyed daily walks into town to explore the local shops (big shout out to the deli as they had the most amazing rose wine - of which we bought three bottles ?). This was the perfect stay for a chilled break after a crazy couple of days travelling. Highly recommend & wouldn't hesitate to book another stay!
It's really tough to review this place. The building is beautiful and the internal space is lovely, but it's very much an event space first and somewhere to stay second. The hosts were kind, welcoming and Olivia's communication prior to our arrival was great. But the managing agent sent 4 separate emails talking about a 'digital welcome pack' that didn't exist, and a key safe and code, which were similarly fictitious. Also the listing states breakfast is included, but it wasn't, unfortunately not even milk for tea or coffee, which made the first morning less pleasant than we had hoped. There are also no curtains on any windows and doors, so I was mildly embarrassed to find a few women walking right past the floor-to-celing glass doors as I went to the kitchen at 11.30pm one evening in just my underwear! The hosts get 5*, the venue 4* just for the lack of a few key things for a stay, and the managing agents get 3*.
This is an absolutely unique experience. Its not a home, not a venue. It's an abbey loft. Burning wood, watching time. Sleeping, repeating.
Lovely venue, helpful host.
This was such a unique stay in a beautifully detailed historic building; a real gem for those who love architecture/design. The feeling of space within the building is incredible. And in such a peaceful setting, within meadows down a country lane; also great for our dog. We would love to return. Thank you Olivia and Gary for your generosity in sharing this wonderful place!
Abbey Hall was a unique mix of old charm and modern style, with plenty of space. Gary and Olivia, our hosts, were friendly and made us feel welcomed, offering breakfast and even helping with dinner plans. They gave us great recommendations for things to do in the area. We didn't feel rushed to leave, and Gary let us check out whenever we wanted. We loved relaxing by the private pond, enjoying the countryside view. Our dog had a blast exploring the spacious grounds. This getaway from London was just what we needed - a peaceful retreat with lots of room to unwind. Perfect for anyone who enjoys countryside getaways with plenty of space.
We had an amazing weekend stay at Abbey Hall. Nested in the Suffolk countryside and a very large estate, the former priory is a great spot to relax, or go for nice country walks. Passionate about designs and architecture, we both really enjoyed the place, with its grand atrium and elegant industrial touches. Ahead of our stay, we asked whether Julie, a local chef, could prepare a three-course meal for us. Julie was delightful and the food was well presented, honest and tasty. We had our meal on the large main room table, which had been set up beautifully before our arrival. The owner, Olivia rang us to check if everything was OK with our stay, and suggested a few nice local establishments for food and drinks. We took our two little dogs with us (there was a surcharge for the dogs), and they loved the outdoor space. I would absolutely recommend staying at Abbey Hall!

A beautiful listing - we loved the building. We tried many of Olivia’s recommendations (Beards Deli, The Debenham Lion and The Kings Head, Brockdish) all with great food options. Thanks again for having us - it is a really unique place to stay.
