Cloudbreak, Aldeburgh

Entire home/flat
6 guests
3 bedrooms
5 beds
3.5 baths
A architect designed contemporary eco house with a central south west facing courtyard garden, first floor balcony with distant glimpses of the river and sea, and a curved wall of bi-fold doors conveniently hidden in the heart of Aldeburgh.

The space

Curved bi-fold doors deliver floods of light to the open plan living space. The modern kitchen with large island leads through to the dining and sitting area, creating a relaxed homely space for everyone to gather. A corridor separates the living area from the ground floor twin bedroom, bathroom and cloakroom and a staircase leads to the first floor shower room and twin bedroom, both beautifully lit by dormer windows. From the living area, a stunning glass and steel spiral staircase leads to the first floor double bedroom with en-suite shower room and access to the south and west facing balcony.
Please be aware, if you have very small children, this property may not be suitable as the master bedroom is a distance from the other bedrooms and accessed via the spiral staircase.
There is underfloor heating throughout the ground floor and in the bathrooms, conventional radiators in the bedrooms.

The south west-facing courtyard is planted with herbs, shrubs, a central olive tree and a water feature. A large table and 10 chairs, parasol and a charcoal barbecue for guests to enjoy. There is also an outdoor shower; perfect after a day on the beach or at the sailing club.

We all had a lovely time - my elderly parents liked it and the ground floor bedroom and bathroom worked well.

Lovely place close to the high street and beach. Nice quiet location and a great sun trap courtyard.

What a beautiful house in a perfect location Spotlessly clean with lots of space & privacy. Very comfortable beds & separate bathrooms & all very well equipped. The location to the beach & town is perfect & all within walking distance. Jane & Jonathan were very responsive when we had to call them with an issue. Aldeburgh is a delightful place & made all the more special by our stay at Cloudbreak. One thing to consider is to take fans to stay cool in the heat

Overall, we had a great stay. The cottage was lovely and in a superb location, making it an excellent base for exploring the area. The only small point is that it would have been even better if the second double bedroom (which was locked during our stay) had been available. Both double rooms are finished to a higher standard than the two twin bedrooms at the other end of the house, so having access to both would have made the accommodation feel even more balanced for our group. One minor suggestion would be to add an armchair to the courtyard alongside the two-seater wicker sofa. As we were a group of three, it would have been a nice finishing touch to have comfortable seating for everyone. Overall, though, we really enjoyed our stay and would happily recommend the cottage.

Following a few minor gripes at the start (strange parking instructions, issue with a tap and the dishwasher), the whole experience was perfect. A wonderful house, a brilliant and gorgeous area, so close to the main high street and all that has to offer, but also really quiet and private road. We fell In love with Suffolk and aldeburgh and can’t wait to return.

This is a beautiful house and I would definitely recommend a break here. We did have a plumbing issue in the downstairs cloakroom. The tap was completely loose which caused a flood in the room. We took advice from cottage tree who were very responsive. I would also comment that the kitchen tap was also loose and dripped continuously. This being said I feel sure these minor issues will be immediately sorted and shouldn't reflect badly. The house is great. Go and ENJOY!
