Bovis Cottage, Southwold

Entire home/flat
4 guests
2 bedrooms
3 beds
1 baths
Bovis Cottage is a pretty Grade II listed cottage and was originally a much bigger property and part of a farm. After being split up, it retains some of the original features such as the spiral staircase. It is located at the end of the high street, a very peaceful spot away from the hustle and bustle of the town, yet only a short walk to the beach, iconic pier and the beach hut lined promenade. It is the perfect location for a family holiday or a romantic getaway.

The space

Bovis Cottage is set back from the road with a large front garden laid to lawn, a great spot to soak up the sun. Walk up the garden path to the front door which leads into the spacious hallway. On the left is the light and airy open plan living room and dining area, with large sash windows looking out to the garden. There is a two-seater sofa, two armchairs and a table and chairs to comfortably seat four.

This leads into the well equipped kitchen with a four ring hob, oven, fridge (with an icebox), microwave, kettle and toaster. There is also a washing machine along the hall in the utility room.
At the end of the house is the family bathroom with a bath with a shower over, WC, hand basin and towel rail.

Spiral staircase leads to the first-floor master bedroom. There is a double bed, built in wardrobes, two bedside tables and a spacious dressing area with more wardrobe space and a chest of drawers. Windows looking out to Barnaby Green make this a bright and airy room.
Up another spiral staircase is the second bedroom in the eaves. There are two single beds and plenty of storage on the landing, a great cosy space for the kids.

Outside, at the end of the house, there is a garden room, a perfect place to sit and enjoy the garden and watch the wildlife and stay dry !
There is a good size garden at the front, mainly laid to lawn, the perfect place to sit and watch the world go by. The rear garden is also a generous size and mainly laid to lawn with some shrubs and bushes. There is a table and chairs and also a bench should you wish to dine al fresco, or simply sit and enjoy a glass of your favourite tipple in the sunshine.

The rear garden can be accessed via a right of way through two other gardens from Spinner's Lane but there is no right of way past Bovis Cottage.
Spinner's Lane has direct access out onto the common and down to the harbour.

We had a lovely break. The accommodation was great value. We enjoyed exploring Southwold and the coastline, all within walking distance.

We had a lovely couple of days in Suffolk with my 2 year old and husband. Everything was neat and tidy. There was a travel cot and high chair which was perfect and we were not traveling with a car abd those items. The accommodation was very close to the town center. Everything was within 10-15 minutes walk away. My only consideration, which is not a negative but worth noting as I have a tall husband, is that the ceilings are low and the second bedroom is up a really steep and narrow set of stairs.

Small but very nice and perfect for my wife and I plus 2 grandchildren, 7 and 11. Odd layout, I guess the result of extensions, but functional. The twin bedroom on second floor is kind of cute, the grandchildren loved it, but the stairs are very steep and might be unsuitable for younger children or less able adults. That having been said, for us it was perfect! Southwold is our go to place in the UK - we would happily stay here again!

Sweet cottage in a beautiful setting, but the stairs are precarious and the bathroom is two stories below the top bedroom, so we found it tricky to negotiate as a family.

We had a wonderful stay at Bovis Cottage. It was clean and comfortable and a perfect location, just seconds from the High Street and a 10 minute walk to the beach. Absolutely perfect. We’ll be back!

We have been to Southwold many times and this is one of the nicest houses we have stayed in. It was clean on arrival which is always a bonus and the customer service we received was exceptional… we loved ourselves out on the final night and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful… thank you so much. Will definitely be back.

A lovely, comfortable, warm cottage in a peaceful but central location. Parking available but quite often a fair way down the street. The cottage was very well equipped and clean.

Whilst we didn’t have the best weather, we had a lovely stay with our 11-month old, the house was in a great location with everything in walking distance and a lovely peaceful common out the back which was nice for relaxing on after an afternoon of walking round beautiful Southwold.
