What’s on in Suffolk this summer (2026 guide)
Summer in Suffolk is a special thing, with colourful beach huts, the fun of family attractions, sun-drenched countryside and light, breezy evenings on the coast.
If you have a Suffolk summer holiday booked this year or are thinking of arranging a trip, here are some of the fantastic events and days out happening in the county for summer 2026. From music to motoring, there’s something for every kind of visitor.
Newmarket Nights
Newmarket Racecourses isn’t only for horse racing; each summer, they add live music to their schedule, allowing visitors to experience both in one memorable setting. Their 2026 Newmarket Nights evenings will see performances from the likes of Craig David, Madness, Basement Jaxx, Jessie J, and Kaiser Chiefs on selected dates throughout the summer.
Gates open in the afternoon so that you can soak up the atmosphere before the first race, generally in the early evening, with concerts beginning around 8:30pm. There are several tiers of tickets to choose from.

Summer at Snape
World-class entertainment is brought to Suffolk by Britten Pears Arts, which has venues at the internationally-renowned Snape Maltings as well as The Red House in Aldeburgh, and hosts several programmes throughout the year. Summer at Snape, their summer programme, follows the popular Aldeburgh Festival held in June.
Summer at Snape combines a broad range of concerts and events, including family concerts such as Nick Cope: Family Show (2nd August), dazzling harmonies with The Puppini Sisters (19th August), and powerful must-sees like the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra performing Mendelssohn’s Scottish Symphony (26th August). Summer of Play at Ickworth Estate
The National Trust’s Ickworth Estate, near Bury St Edmunds in West Suffolk, is transforming part of its site into a play garden over the summer holidays, where they will provide plentiful opportunities for exploration and make-believe. From mazes to mud kitchens and performances on the Summer House stage, there will be something for all ages of children, making it a perfect choice for a family day out.

Thorington Theatre Summer Programme
A trip to this outdoor theatre, nestled amongst the trees, is sure to be a memorable experience. Thorington Theatre was constructed in 2020 and welcomed its first audience in summer 2021. Each summer, they host many performances spanning comedy, music, plays, and family shows. This year’s programme includes several comedic Shakespeare plays, lots of performances for kids, The Scarlet Pimpernel (28th June), Dark Music & Fairy Tales (10th July) and plenty more.
There is a wooden box office and bar serving locally sourced drinks, as well as free parking and ample space for a picnic before a show. There are two viewing platforms available for wheelchair users.

Ipswich Music Day
The largest free one-day music festival in the UK, Ipswich Music Day has six stages of live entertainment and music as well as fairground rides, street food, and a market. We can’t wait to discover the many celebrations of music, art and culture this year’s event has to offer.

Latitude
A highlight of the Suffolk events calendar, the eclectic and popular music and arts festival returns to Henham Park once again this summer. Latitude is well known not only for music but also for its fantastic variety of other disciplines, notably comedy, poetry, wellness and family activities (and also for its pink sheep). This year it will be headlined by David Byrne, Teddy Swims, and Lewis Capaldi, with Ross Noble, Sara Pascoe, and Jack Dee all gracing the comedy arena.
All ticket types are still available, so if you’re visiting the county at the end of July, there’s still time to make it part of your plans.

Magic Weekend
For little fans of all things magical, this weekend event at the stunning Kentwell Hall and Gardens is the perfect dose of family fun. Magicians, fairies, wizards, mystics and other enchanted beings will be spread across their 30 acres of gardens, with plenty to do and lots of interactive activities to discover. Many visitors to Magic Weekend dress up, so witch hats, broomsticks, fairy wings or full-blown costumes are very welcome!

Theatre in the Forest
You don’t need to be a theatre buff to appreciate the atmospheric nature and magical surroundings of Theatre in the Forest. Run by the Red Rose Chain Theatre Company, this fantastic experience sees stunning performances of Shakespeare classics against the backdrop of an Anglo-Saxon burial ground and National Trust site, Sutton Hoo.
The show for this year is Twelfth Night, a high-energy story of hilarious romance and mistaken identity!
While the show starts at 7:30pm, attendees can arrive from 5pm to spend time exploring Sutton Hoo at no additional cost, with lots of ideal spots if you’re looking for somewhere for a pre-show picnic.

Black Shuck Festival
In the town of Bungay, you’ll find a festival with a difference. Celebrating folklore, imagination and storytelling, the Black Shuck Festival offers performance, art, literature and history, all centred around the rich mythology and tradition of the region.
The festival is named for the East Anglian legend of Black Shuck, which tells the story of a wild dog that entered St Mary’s Church in Bungay during a violent storm one August night in 1577. Visitors to the town can expect to see references to it whenever they visit, but it will be truly brought to life over the festival weekend!

FolkEast
Another festival to add to your list is FolkEast, held at the delightful Sotterley Estate, a short drive from Southwold. FolkEast is a three-day celebration of music, food, ale and art running for over three decades. As well as a packed line-up of folk artists, there will be workshops, an art marquee that celebrates local artists and makers, talks from writers, musicians and gardeners, and of course, a whole host of food and drink.
Weekend tickets and camping pitches are still available, so make sure to get yours before they’re gone!

Action Arena Ipswich
Thrill seekers, get ready; the UK’s biggest touring inflatable obstacle course lands in Suffolk for a vibrant weekend in July. With a mini action arena (for those under 1.2m in height or aged 3-7) and an XXL action arena (for those above 1.2m in height), it caters for both little and big adventurers, with obstacles and challenges for each.
Tickets are valid for a specified one-hour time slot and are £13.50 for the XXL arena and £8.95 for the mini arena (plus booking fees for both).

The Festival of Classic & Sports Cars
There are several events running over the summer months at the beautiful Helmingham Hall Gardens in Suffolk, but The Festival of Classic & Sports Cars is a particular highlight. It’s a great day out for motoring enthusiasts, but with enough variety to keep everyone entertained, no matter your interests, making it a perfect option for groups.
Over 1,200 vehicles representing the last 10 decades of motoring history are displayed against the backdrop of the moated hall, from vintage classics to the latest sports car models. There’s also plenty of local food and drink, live entertainment and children’s activities. Don’t miss the cars taking their turn on a run down the sweeping driveway!

Sax Music Fest
Arranged by community interest group Saxmundham Music & Arts, the annual Sax Fest in Saxmundham is a free three-day event full of music and family fun. Taking place over an early August weekend, the lineup consists of talented local musicians as well as some brilliant tribute acts, including Young Elton Tribute, Songbird – The Music of Fleetwood Mac and Ed Nearan.
Street food available will include fish finger sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs and sweet treats such as ice cream, pancakes and pizza – and for smaller visitors, there’s face painting, fairground games, and more to keep them entertained (please note that some of these activities will have a charge).

Thorpeness Regatta
The seaside village of Thorpeness is well worth a visit on your trip to Suffolk anyway, but if you happen to be in the area in August, make sure to head there for their annual Regatta. All centred around the iconic Meare with its colourful boats and holiday spirit, you’ll find a whole host of different boat races held during the days that the Regatta is on, as well as a spectacular fireworks display on Friday evening.

Aldeburgh Carnival
For a fantastic day out on the Suffolk coast, don’t miss Aldeburgh Carnival in August. Run by a team of volunteers all aiming to create a grand three-day programme of events at the seaside, the weekend is full of entertainment for all the family, with plenty of Suffolk traditions thrown in.
This year’s theme is ‘Country & Eastern – Aldeburgh Ho Down’, especially perfect for lovers of country music and cowboys! All the action is divided across three days: music day on 15th August, with live music on the beach from local artists; sports day on 16th with a 10k mini marathon and more activities; and carnival day on Monday 17th, when a bright procession takes to the streets.
