If you’re local to Suffolk or heading here on a family trip during October half-term, make sure you experience one of our many exciting Halloween events. Designed for all ages and packed with fun activities, there is plenty to do for those looking for safe scares and more chilling thrills. In this post, we’ll list just some of the popular events happening this October for you to add to your plan.
Grab the kids and get ready for some frightful fun this Halloween in Suffolk at these family-friendly events.
It wouldn’t be Halloween without a pumpkin patch. At Rougham Sunflower and Pumpkin Field, your family will have the chance to grab a wheelbarrow (including mini ones for tiny tots) and pick pumpkins, squashes or gourds across several dedicated pumpkin picking weekends. Dogs are not allowed in the main patch, but the team sets up a very special doggy pumpkin patch for pooches to have a good sniff and play in (these pumpkins can’t be bought, for normal messy dog-related reasons).
There’s plenty of room for children to run and play, too, as well as space for picnics and ice creams. Sandpits, pedal tractors, and small pumpkin games will help to keep everyone entertained before or after picking pumpkins, and there’s daily face painting too. The pumpkin patch is beautifully set up, perfect for great autumnal photo opportunities, and open from 9am to 5pm (except for Tuesday 27 and Thursday 29, when the patch will be open 10am – 5pm). Plenty of food trucks will be on site, ensuring you’ve got lots to tuck into!
This year, there will also be SEN pumpkin picking sessions, designed to be calm and supportive for those with special educational and sensory needs.
When: 3 – 4 October | 10 – 11 October | 17 – 18 October | 24 – 31 October | SEN-only – 27 October, 9am – 10am | SEN-only – 29 October, 9am – 10am
Where: Rougham Sunflower and Pumpkin Field, Bury St Edmunds, IP30 9HX
That’s right, Rougham Pumpkins isn’t just during the day. For two nights only, Rougham will host their popular Pumpkins by Torchlight event, the perfect spook-free Halloween experience for the whole family. The patch will stay open from 6pm to 9pm, so grab a torch, put on your wellies, and get ready for an exciting twist on your typical pumpkin-picking experience.
A spooky silent disco will also be available for those who want to dance the evening away (while keeping quiet for those who don’t)! Booking ahead is essential to secure your headset, but they’ll also have a waiting list on the day. These evening specials will run from 6pm to 9pm.
When: 17 and 24 October
Where: Rougham Sunflower and Pumpkin Field, Bury St Edmunds, IP30 9HX
The beautiful Red House in Aldeburgh is hosting a very special workshop for little ghosts and ghouls! Kids can step into a world of eerie local history through musical storytelling, and learn how sounds can bring scary stories to life. They’ll even get the chance to build and decorate their own audio effects box so they can make their own scary sounds at home (sorry, parents!). The experience includes a garden trail too, where children can hunt for clues to win a spooky prize.
This event is split up into several one hour sessions over two days, so head to their website and book your slot.
When: 29 – 30 October
Where: The Red House, Aldeburgh, IP15 5PZ
Another excellent pumpkin patch to visit is the Southwold Pumpkin Patch. This acre patch is full of over 15 varieties of pumpkin grown right there on site, which are planted each year in May so they’re the perfect size for picking come October. Grab one of their barrows and pick your favourites, then stop by their activity stations at Old Hall and get carving and decorating.
They’ve also got a playground, giant bouncy pillows, a double zip line, pedal go-karts, and Boodles’ Trick or Treat Stamp Trail. To top it all off, each day during half-term, they’re hiding a special golden pumpkin somewhere in the patch… be the one to find it, and you’ll win an exciting prize (which could be tickets to their summer maize maze).
When: Every weekend during October, and 26 – 30 October
Where: Old Hall Farm, Southwold, IP18 6SG
This exciting Halloween event gives your family the chance to explore this beautiful nature reserve after dark. The team at Lackford Lakes will be hosting spooktacular nature-themed activities for the family, showcasing the night creatures who call the reserve home.
Activities include: owl pellet dissection, tin can bug hotel making (bring your own can), red light torchlit bug hunting, bat detecting, and a creature clay station. Anyone over 5 years of age will enjoy this safe and spooky nighttime event, but be prepared that it can get very dark between activities! Bring a torch, some waterproof shoes, warm layers, and a reusable cup if you’d like a takeaway drink for the trail. Oh, and spooky costumes are encouraged.
Book your tickets to choose your starting time from 4:30pm, and stay for as long as you’d like until the event closes at 7pm.

This Halloween, the National Horseracing Museum is transforming into a school of wizardry and witchcraft! All the classes and activities are included in the ticket price, and there will be plenty of refreshments available to purchase during the experience.
This special event runs from 5:30pm to 7pm, and booking in advance is essential. All successful students will take home a goody bag and certificate, so make sure you’ve got your thinking caps on for this one.

We understand that some family events might not quite be up a teenager’s street. For the big kids looking for a more exciting or unique scare this Halloween, consider these bone-chilling experiences.
Are you ready to be terrified in a seriously scary immersive experience? Visit Suffolk’s haunted village, ScaresVille, if you dare. This live-action event includes actors, themed rooms and areas, and a walk around the village grounds. We can’t say more than that, as the event keeps its secrets tightly hidden… all you need to know is that this is an award-winning event and one of the most popular Halloween experiences in East Anglia! If you’re interested, we strongly recommend visiting the ScaresVille website to learn more.
The team behind this popular event doesn’t recommend bringing anyone under the age of 14; however, they won’t stop you if you think you have some incredibly brave kids who would enjoy it. Just remember that the event is very dark, very realistic, includes immersive live action, and isn’t recommended for anyone squeamish, pregnant, claustrophobic, frail, or faint-hearted. We personally think this is a treat suited to you and the big teens on your family trip only. This event is ticketed, with pricing varying by date.
When: 15 October – 31 October
Where: Kentwell Hall, Long Melford, CO10 9BA
Jet Adventures takes the classic ghost tour and brings it to the water. Hop aboard their boat and get ready for 60 minutes of cool darkness and spooky stories about the legends of Lowestoft’s eerie maritime history. Guests will approach the Ships Graveyard just as the sun goes down, and will then be regaled with chilling tales. On the journey back, a sudden distress call will come in from a ghost ship, and when you disembark, you’ll need to board this ship and investigate, adding another 30 minutes to this frightening experience…
This is an excellent Halloween event for teenagers who love a good story – just remember to wrap up warm and don your waterproofs. Dogs are also welcome aboard, but you’ll need to cover the cost of a doggy buoyancy aid to keep them safe. It’s also important to know that the life jackets have a strap that goes between your legs, so trousers are highly recommended!
When: 24 October
Where: Heritage Quay South Pier, Lowestoft, NR33 0AE
Are you ready for a real fright? For those over 18 only, Trinity Scares is a Halloween event featuring three terrifying mazes: Cell Block T, Cursed Clowns, and The Nightmare. You’ll arrive at the safe zone, where you can enjoy some food and drink before, between, and after your maze experiences. Tackle them in any order and get ready for terrifying actors prepared to scare you senseless in near-pitch-black environments.
Also at Trinity Scares, you’ll find Dodgems, a mysteriously scary activity called The Cave, live Halloween entertainment, sideshows, a fortune teller, and much more. So, dress up warm, gather your courage, and enter Trinity Scares… if you dare.
When: 16 – 19, 21 – 25, and 28 – 31 October
