Lying within the Suffolk Coasts and Heaths area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Orford is an interesting village and has changed little over the years. It is a beautiful spot offering a perfect base for walkers, cyclists, artists or those who wish to wander down to the river to watch the fishing boats go by. Orford is dominated by Henry II’s historic 12th Century Castle and a beautiful Suffolk Church often hosting musical events and performances curated by the Britten Peers Foundation. Famed for its locally grown Oysters and Mussels, and fish from its very own day boats, Pinney’s fish shop is located near the quay, whilst its’ famous restaurant is nestled on the village square. Just across the square is the Pump Street Bakery which attracts visitors from across the county – try their delicious quiches, artisan chocolate, brownies, breads and other baked treats. The local Market operates every Saturday morning in the Town Hall – local produce, baked goods and makers sharing their wares. Younger guests are sure to enjoy the playing field and playground just minutes from the house.

Walk along the River Alde – spotting seals, spoonbills, herons and rare estuary wildfowl. Several boat trips operate from the quay – to Orford Ness (National Trust), Havergate Island (RSPB) or along the River Alde. Details can be found on the NT, RSBP website, or on signs at the Quay. The Riverside Tea Rooms is a great place to watch the world go by, serving tasty lunches and teas. On the Quay, you will also find the Watch Tower which houses local art exhibitions, The Harbour Master office is on the Quay and Matt, the Harbour Master, is a great source of local knowledge for those wishing to launch their own vessels or take advantage of the river for kayaking, & paddle boarding,

The house was very clean and presented beautifully when we arrived. There were one or two issues during our stay but they were sorted out very quickly by the management team.

Lovely cottage - super-cosy, well equipped, excellent central location. The dog loved it too, given the proximity to the rec! Thank you for having us!

The house is well equipped, clean and tidy. It is in a small village with a couple of pubs, a village shop, river quay, church and castle all within easy walking distance. Not much else to do but easy drive to other places of interest. The road outside can be a bit noisy from occasional cars at night with the bedroom windows open. Didn't like the fact that they wanted to charge for an early check-in £25 for 2 hours earlier and charge to use a high chair. All other rentals I've stayed provide a high chair as part of the facilities and an early check in if poss free of charge. Seemed very money grabbing.
